Iran says it struck US base in Jordan hosting fighter jets
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on June 11 it had launched ballistic missile strikes against a U.S. military air base in Jordan that hosts F-35, F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft, in retaliation for recent U.S. attacks on Iranian territory.
In a statement, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force fired 12 ballistic missiles at Al-Azraq Air Base and other facilities it described as key U.S. military sites, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
The force claimed the strikes destroyed infrastructure at the base and damaged a large number of American fighter jets stationed there.
The claims could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the United States military or Jordanian authorities.
The IRGC said the attack was carried out in response to U.S. missile strikes on a recreational facility, an industrial complex and areas near the cities of Karaj and Nazarabad west of Tehran, as well as a Revolutionary Guard base in Pishva County.
Iran's elite force said its military operations would continue as long as what it called "enemy aggression" persisted.
Earlier, the IRGC said it had struck 18 major U.S. military targets at Ali Al Salem and Ahmad Al Jaber air bases in Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. Iranian military statements also reported attacks on Patriot air defence systems, communications facilities and the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
