Iran vow revenge on Israel for assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh
Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, has vowed revenge following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Speaking at Haniyeh's funeral, Bagheri stated, "Various actions must be taken, and the Zionists will surely regret," emphasizing that Iran is "investigating the way of taking revenge" and assured that such retaliation "will definitely happen," Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed early on July 31 at their residence in Tehran, according to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
The incident occurred as Haniyeh was in Tehran for the inauguration of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian. The IRGC's statement noted that the circumstances surrounding the attack are under investigation, with details to be released at a later date.
