Armenia receives requests for vote recount Electoral Commission Says
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has received 30 applications seeking a recount of voting results at 555 polling stations, representing nearly a quarter of all polling stations in the country.
The requests were submitted by representatives and candidates of the Armenia Alliance bloc, as well as the Prosperous Armenia and Wings of Unity parties, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Territorial election commissions will consolidate the submitted applications, after which the CEC will publish on its official website a list of polling stations where vote recounts will be conducted.
Armenia’s parliamentary elections were held on June 7. According to preliminary results released by the CEC from all 2,005 polling stations, the ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received 49.825% of the vote.
The Strong Armenia bloc led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan secured 23.281%, while the Armenia Alliance bloc headed by former President Robert Kocharyan won 9.934%.
The Prosperous Armenia party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan received 3.996% of the vote and failed to enter parliament. Voter turnout stood at 58.97%.
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will announce the final results of the country’s parliamentary elections on June 14.
