Armenia Alliance to challenge election results in Constitutional Court
The Armenia Alliance, led by former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, plans to challenge the results of the country’s parliamentary elections in the Constitutional Court, the alliance’s second-ranking figure, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, announced.
“We are going to apply to the Constitutional Court to contest the election results. Of course, we understand who makes the decisions in the Constitutional Court, but this is a necessary process,” Saghatelyan said.
He added that the alliance would also consult with other opposition forces regarding the legal challenge.
Armenia held parliamentary elections on June 7, with preliminary results from all 2,005 polling stations showing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party leading the vote with 49.825%.
The Strong Armenia bloc, led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan, finished second with 23.281%, while former President Robert Kocharyan’s Armenia Alliance secured 9.934%.
The Prosperous Armenia party, headed by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, received 3.996% of the vote and failed to clear the threshold required for parliamentary representation. Voter turnout was reported at 58.97%.
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission is expected to announce the final official results of the parliamentary elections on June 14.
