Iranian FM: Israel seeks to influence US elections by provoking war
Spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei has said that Israel aims to ignite a major armed conflict in the Middle East to influence the US presidential campaign.
"Israel maliciously rushes to plunge the entire region into an ongoing war to affect the upcoming elections in the US," Baghaei stated, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"At the same time, the US law enforcement falsely accuses Iran of trying to interfere in US internal affairs, which is an absurd distortion of reality," he added.
On September 18, US intelligence agencies claimed that Iranian hackers stole internal documents from the campaign office of Republican candidate Donald Trump and sent them to media outlets and individuals linked to current President Joe Biden.
Iran's permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, called the US government's allegations unfounded.
On September 27, the US Department of State announced a $10 million reward for information about three Iranians allegedly linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who, according to Washington, were attempting to influence the US elections.
The presidential elections in the US are scheduled for November 5, with Trump representing the Republican Party and current Vice President Kamala Harris representing the Democratic Party.
