Iranian leader accused of supporting attack on writer Rushdie
Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei supported the attack on British writer Salman Rushdie.
The Iranian newspaper Kayhan, which is considered the media broadcasting Khamenei's position, praised the attacker on Rushdie, saying that "his hands should be showered with kisses", Lenta.Ru reports with reference to The Guardian.
The material was published under the headline "Devil's neck under the sword".
The British newspaper writes that the Iranian leader's anti-Western views are based on dubious religious beliefs. Iran expert Karim Sajjadpour urged the US to be suspicious of Tehran's actions. He concluded that there could be no trust between the US and Iran even if the nuclear deal was successfully restored.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanani Chafi said that only he and those who supported him were to blame for the attack on the writer Rushdie during a speech in New York. This is how the diplomat reacted to the accusation of an attempt against Tehran. According to him, "no one has the right to blame Iran".
