Iraq's PM denounces Israeli threats, vows country will not serve as base for attacks
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has accused Israel of threatening Iraq under false pretenses, stating that his country will not allow its territory to be used as a launchpad for attacks on Israel.
Speaking at an event in Baghdad, al-Sudani highlighted the increasing tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"The Zionist entity (Israel) is issuing threats based on false and invalid claims. We will not allow Iraq to be used as a platform for attacks," he asserted.
The Iraqi leader also called on Israel to refrain from expanding the scope of hostilities, announcing that he had instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to raise the issue of Israeli threats with international bodies.
Earlier, Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein revealed that Israel had sent a letter containing threats, although he stressed that this does not necessarily mean it would lead to war.
Israel has been accused of threatening to target positions of Iran-backed Shiite militias within Iraq, while members of these militias periodically claim to have carried out attacks on Israeli assets.
