Is Anna Hakopyan set to lead Armenia? Speculations surround Pashinyan’s wife
There is speculation within the Armenian government team that Anna Hakopyan, wife of Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, could lead the list in the upcoming elections.
Hakopyan’s heightened political activity may be a sign of her future ambitions, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
She is said to have her own office and working team within the government, including a PR team. In addition to hosting both local and foreign guests and organizing various events, she is also reportedly involved in decision-making on state personnel policies, despite not holding an official position.
Members of the Civil Contract party, led by Pashinyan, believe that recent changes in the government’s staffing were carried out according to Hakopyan’s plan.
However, Hraparak points out a significant challenge: Anna Hakopyan’s negative approval rating is reportedly higher than that of her husband, Nikol Pashinyan, which could affect her potential political future.
Thus, Anna Hakobyan, born on February 1, 1978, in the Armenian SSR, is an Armenian journalist and the wife of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. She is the editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times), the largest newspaper in Armenia.
Hakobyan graduated from Yerevan State University and began her journalism career in Armenia. In addition to her professional role, she is often informally referred to as the "First Lady of Armenia," although this title is officially reserved for the spouses of the President.
She played an active role in the 2018 Velvet Revolution, a series of peaceful protests that led to the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan and the election of her husband, Nikol Pashinyan, as Prime Minister on May 8, 2018. Since then, she has been the official spouse of the Prime Minister.
