Israel intercepts long-range missile with new defence system Hetz-3
The Israeli Defence Ministry reported the first case of successful combat use of the Hetz-3 anti-missile system. It was used to intercept an air target in the sky over the Red Sea.
According to the Defence Ministry, the interception of a target directed towards Israel was carried out on November 9 in the evening.
“This is the first operational interception by the Hetz-3 system since it entered service in 2017. This follows the first operational intercept made by the Hetz-2 system last week,” the press release said.
Both complexes are part of the Israeli multi-level air defense and missile defense system Protective Dome. Hetz-2 is used against ballistic missiles with a range of up to 1,500 km, Hetz-3 - against long-range ballistic missiles over 2,400 km with trans-atmospheric interception.
Also in development is Hetz-4 to intercept long-range missiles with multiple cylinders in space.
