Kazakh president praises swift response to Aktau plane crash
Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, convened a meeting regarding the recent plane crash near Aktau.
Tokayev extended his condolences to the families and the loved ones of the victims, emphasizing that the crash, which occurred a few days ago in the Mangystau region, claimed lives including those of Kazakh citizens, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The President commended the prompt and coordinated response of emergency services at the crash site. He highlighted that their quick actions helped prevent even more severe consequences and saved numerous lives. Tokayev also praised the timely and transparent dissemination of information about the incident to the public.
He noted the overwhelming response from the public, with many citizens immediately reaching out to aid the victims. People donated blood in large numbers, and numerous individuals paid their respects by placing flowers at the Azerbaijani Embassy. This widespread solidarity and compassion were widely covered by both domestic and international media.
Tokayev acknowledged the contributions of rescuers, medical professionals, and volunteers, calling attention to the selfless efforts of Kazakhstan's citizens, as well as expressions of gratitude from neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan, who have offered special thanks for the assistance provided.
The tragic incident took place on December 25, when an Embraer 190 aircraft, operating flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, crashed in Aktau while attempting an emergency landing.
The flight was carrying 67 people in total: 62 passengers and 5 crew members. Among the passengers were 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyzstani nationals. Unfortunately, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, while 29 survived.
