Kazakhstan evacuates over 63,000 due to floods
Head of the Disaster Relief Department of the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations Kaharman Orazalin has said that the local rescuers evacuated more than 63,000 people from several settlements due to the flood.
Orazalin made these remarks at a briefing, Caliber.Az reports citing Kazinform.
“Some 3,391 private residential buildings, 1,059 country houses, and 79 various buildings have been flooded in Aktobe, Kostanay, Pavlodar, Akmola, Atyrau, and North Kazakhstan regions. Some 63,927 people, including 45 people with disabilities and 15,283 children, have been rescued and evacuated,” he said.
There are 13,328 people in temporary accommodation centrse. Over 8,700 people were involved in rescue operations. Some 1,700 pieces of equipment and 12 aircraft were used.
A local emergency situation has been declared in 10 regions of Kazakhstan due to floods, namely, Abay, Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan and Ulytau regions.
