Kremlin keeps its cool after Trump cuts Ukraine deal deadline
The Kremlin has formally acknowledged recent remarks made by US President Donald Trump, in which he issued an ultimatum to Russia and Ukraine, drastically reducing the timeline for a negotiated resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that Moscow had taken note of the statements, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We have taken note of President Trump's statement yesterday,” Peskov said. However, he refrained from offering further comment, adding that he “would like to avoid making any assessments” of the US leader’s remarks.
Trump had initially announced a 50-day window for Russia and Ukraine to reach a peace agreement, warning that failure to do so would result in the imposition of 100% tariffs on Russian goods and those of its trading partners. The president emphasized that the measure was intended to apply maximum economic pressure to bring about a resolution.
However, in a more recent development on July 28, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with what he characterized as insufficient progress in peace efforts. As a result, he announced a significant acceleration of his timeline, reducing the ultimatum to just 10–12 days.
The American president also stated that he was “no longer interested” in engaging with Russian President Vladimir Putin, though he did not elaborate on what specific discussions or channels of communication he was referring to.
