Kremlin spokesperson: US sanctions policy reflects economic pragmatism
The United States adopts a pragmatic stance when it comes to protecting its trade and economic interests, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov made this statement in response to a question regarding the US Treasury’s decision to extend permissions for energy transactions involving key Russian banks, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
This authorisation will remain effective until April 30, 2025.
“Overall, the United States takes a highly pragmatic approach when it comes to its own interests. Decisions to exclude certain areas from sanctions lists, whether temporarily or for extended periods, are made without hesitation when they align with America's economic interests,” Peskov stated.
Meanwhile, on October 30, the United States imposed sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals allegedly supporting Russia's unlawful war efforts. The US Department of State announced sanctions on over 120 individuals and entities, while the Department of the Treasury added more than 270 to its list.
The sanctions also include 40 entities newly added to the Department of Commerce's Entity List, aiming to counter sanctions evasion across countries such as China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Türkiye, and the UAE.
High-ranking Russian defence officials and sectors within Russia's military industry, including repair facilities and technology producers, have been targeted, alongside subsidiaries of Rosatom.
These measures were enacted under Executive Order 14024, which authorises sanctions against harmful foreign activities by the Russian government.
