Lebanon turns down $60 million aid offer from Iran over sanctions fears
Lebanon has turned down a $60 million aid proposal from Iran, according to Mojtaba Amani, Tehran’s ambassador to Beirut.
As reported by Iranian media, Amani said that Iranian authorities had offered financial assistance to support Lebanon amid its severe economic and social crisis.
However, the Lebanese government declined the offer, citing concerns that accepting the funds could trigger international sanctions.
The ambassador criticised this stance, pointing out that “the United States has failed to deliver on its promises to assist Lebanon for the past three years.”
Amani emphasised that the proposed Iranian aid “could have helped alleviate some of the hardships faced by the Lebanese people at a time when the country continues to grapple with deep economic and social challenges.”
