Lightning strikes kill 27 people within one day in India

At least 27 people were fatally hit by lightning strikes with another 25 having sustained injuries during recent thunderstorms in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

As reported by The National, the fatalities occurred in a span of 24 hours across 12 districts. The region experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail this week.

The severe weather conditions also led to damage to houses, structures, and crops.

In the capital city, New Delhi, heavy rain and lightning prompted the diversion of at least 16 flights to nearby cities.
