Lithuania backs US, EU efforts to normalise Baku-Yerevan ties

Lithuania supports the efforts of the United States and the European Union to promote the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis made the remarks at a briefing following a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on May 8, Report informs.

He noted that the normalisation of relations between the two countries meets the interests of both Yerevan and Baku.

"We are following the situation in the South Caucasus very closely with great concern and at the same time with great hopes for peace," he said.

Landsbergis said that the seventh meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will confirm the clear interest of Azerbaijan and Lithuania in expanding bilateral ties.

The minister noted that the parties positively assessed the current level of cooperation between the countries. In particular, the political dialogue between the countries has intensified significantly over the past few years.

“We look forward to President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Lithuania later this month,” Landsbergis said.
