Marine Le Pen vows to fight for right to run in 2027 French presidential election
France's far-right opposition politician Marine Le Pen has vowed to challenge the court ruling barring her from standing in the 2027 presidential election, claiming efforts are underway to deprive voters of a fair democratic choice.
Speaking at a rally in the southern town of Narbonne, the leader of the National Rally’s parliamentary group said: “They want to steal the presidential election from you,” Caliber.Az reports.
The event was streamed live on the party’s official X account.
Le Pen is appealing a decision by a Paris court that banned her from running for public office for five years following a trial concerning the misuse of European Parliament funds allocated for parliamentary assistants.
“I will fight for justice and against attempts to confiscate democracy,” she told supporters.
Ahead of the rally, Le Pen reiterated her support for National Rally leader Jordan Bardella, affirming party unity and naming him as her potential successor. “If I get hit by a lorry, then Jordan should be the party’s candidate in the presidential election,” she said.
Despite the legal setback, Le Pen remains a prominent political figure. According to a recent poll by Odoxa, 36% of French voters are currently prepared to back her in 2027.
