Media: Mossad headquarters escapes damage amid Iranian strikes
Dozens of Iranian missiles were aimed at the Mossad headquarters, although none struck the compound itself, said an Israeli defence official.
Israeli and US missile defence systems successfully intercepted many of the missiles, while those that were not intercepted predominantly landed in open areas near a southern Israeli air force base, as well as near the Mossad headquarters and a military intelligence base situated north of Tel Aviv, Caliber.Az reports via Axios.
Meanwhile, on October 1, the Israeli security cabinet convened in an underground government bunker located in a mountain near Jerusalem as the first wave of Iranian ballistic missiles approached Israel.
At the beginning of the security cabinet meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined Israel's impending response. "Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it," Netanyahu stated in a video released by his office.
He added, "The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies. They will understand. We will stand by the rule we established: whoever attacks us, we will attack him."
Notably, late on October 1, Iran executed a significant missile strike against key sites in Israel, marking a notable escalation in the ongoing hostilities between the two nations.
Israeli air defences were activated, with air raid sirens sounding throughout Tel Aviv and other regions as officials confirmed efforts to intercept the incoming missiles. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the attack.
This assault follows Israel's recent military actions in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah, a group heavily armed and trained by Iran. The missile strike was claimed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as retaliation for the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on September 27.
The IRGC stated that the strike was aimed at "important military sites" within Israel.
