Moscow: External forces attempt to drag Armenia into dangerous geopolitical games
The West is absolutely indifferent to the fate of the people of Armenia. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this at a briefing.
She said the passing year was not an easy one for very many countries and peoples, including Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"We see attempts by external forces to draw Yerevan into even more dangerous geopolitical games. We see that the West is absolutely indifferent to the fate of the people of Armenia. They (in the West - ed.) use the feelings, historical memory, pain and suffering of Armenians exclusively in their own interests," Zakharova said.
As the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman emphasized, taking into account the allied nature of relations, Russia is ready to support peace, stability and prosperity of Armenia in every possible way.
Zakharova assured that for Moscow this is indeed of the utmost importance for a number of reasons. Among them are "common history, interpenetration of peoples, cultures, regional stability, common challenges, problems that are easier to solve together."
As Zakharova noted, thanks to trade and economic ties with Russia and other EAEU member states, Armenia's economy is showing impressive growth.
"For our part, we are determined to further implement all projects in key areas of cooperation. We see good prospects for normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku on the basis of trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022," the diplomat said.
According to her, there are also prerequisites for the establishment of relations between Armenia and Türkiye. At the same time, Russia is interested in reducing conflict in the South Caucasus and unlocking the region's rich potential, which could be facilitated by expanding cooperation within the framework of the consultative regional platform "3+3", the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.
In recent months, experts have noted the consistent deterioration of Armenian-Russian relations. Armenia does not participate in the CSTO exercises, has refused the quota of the deputy secretary general of this organization.
All this is sometimes accompanied by mutual accusations and diplomatic notes. Nevertheless, on December 25-26, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited St. Petersburg, where he participated in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union and an informal CIS summit.
