Moscow: India to continue buying energy wherever it suits its interests
India purchases energy resources from wherever it considers most beneficial, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said.
“As far as we understand, our Indian partners will continue this approach in order to protect their economic interests,” he told a briefing, according to TASS.
Peskov acknowledged concerns in Moscow about possible changes to the United States’ National Security Strategy under future administrations. However, he said Russia is broadly satisfied with the tone and direction of the current approach.
“The nuance we see in the new concept is certainly appealing to us. It refers to the need for dialogue and the development of constructive and positive relations,” he said.
According to Peskov, the Kremlin sees scope for the “restoration of relations with the United States and for bringing them out of a fairly deep crisis”, provided existing “irritants” are removed.
He added that it is now important for Moscow to understand the outcome of recent US interactions with Ukraine, following President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
“At this point, it is important for us to understand the results of that work,” he said.
Peskov also stressed that those involved in efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine are increasingly realising that such discussions must take place quietly.
“This kind of work cannot be carried out entirely in public. That is unconstructive. Above all, it does not lead to results,” he said.
