Moscow: Situation around Iran nuclear deal worsening due to Western stance
The situation in the Middle East and surrounding Iran’s nuclear program is deteriorating due to the West’s unconstructive approach, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters.
“For many years, the situation in the Middle East and around Iran’s nuclear program has remained a central focus of the international community. Unfortunately, it is not stabilizing — it’s getting worse, worse, and worse due to the West’s unconstructive position,” Zakharova said as quoted by Russian media, per Caliber.Az.
She also confirmed that consultations among Russia, China, and Iran on the nuclear deal would soon take place in Moscow. “Once those are concluded, we will certainly inform the media and the international community of the results,” she noted.
On March 7, US President Donald Trump said he had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei proposing talks on the nuclear issue.
Then, on March 30, Trump announced he would impose additional tariffs on Iran within two weeks if the nuclear negotiations did not yield results. He also warned of “unprecedented bombings” of the Islamic Republic if Tehran refused to engage in a deal.
In response, Khamenei said he did not believe a US military intervention was likely but cautioned that any attempt by Washington to incite unrest in Iran would be met with a firm response.
On April 7, it was revealed that following this correspondence, both sides had agreed to hold a first round of talks on April 12 in Oman.
“Iran and the United States will meet this Saturday in Oman for indirect high-level talks. This is not only an opportunity but also a test. The ball is in America’s court,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on the social media platform X.
