Moscow: Trump seeks Ukraine peace for America’s sake and his own career
On May 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova offered a striking take on US President Donald Trump’s approach to the Ukraine crisis, describing it as driven by his deep-rooted focus on America’s interests.
"There is his message regarding the situation in Ukraine, which he clearly articulated — that it was provoked, unleashed, and essentially created by the previous US president, Biden and his entire circle, and that it needs to be resolved,” the diplomat noted while speaking on air, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
She added, “I won’t claim whether he feels America’s responsibility for this or whether he has the desire, in that sense, to make America great again... He said that this is his goal — to resolve the situation in Ukraine — and so that is what he is doing. He is doing it in the interest of his country and his political campaign, his political career.”
Zakharova also dismissed accusations that Trump is somehow aiding Russia or sympathising with Moscow as baseless, emphasising the unmistakable patriotic symbolism he wears.
“Literally, the word ‘America’ is written on Trump’s forehead. He has been wearing that cap for many years,” she remarked, referencing Trump’s iconic “Make America Great Again” hat.
