NATO’s Air Command reported that two Hungarian Gripen fighter jets intercepted five Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea on September 25.
According to the statement, the Russian formation included three MiG-31 planes and two fighter jets — a Su-30 and a Su-35 — flying near Latvian airspace.
The Hungarian Gripen fighters were scrambled from the Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania to intercept the aircraft.
“Hungary demonstrates the Alliance’s commitment to protecting and safeguarding the Baltics and the eastern flank,” NATO said in a statement.
