NATO secretary general to discuss Ukraine’s military needs at meeting in Germany

08 January 2025 22:40

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will represent the Alliance at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany on January 9.

Following the meeting, Rutte is also expected to visit the newly established NATO command centre in Wiesbaden, Germany, which is focused on coordinating military aid to Ukraine and training Ukrainian soldiers, Caliber.Az reports via the message posted on NATO’s website.

According to the Pentagon, on January 9, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group will approve the military needs of Ukraine’s armed forces in air, land, and naval domains through 2027.

In October 2024, Rutte mentioned that the decision to establish the command in Wiesbaden was made during the Washington summit in July.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group (often referred to as the "Ramstein Format") is an international coalition created to render military assistance to Kyiv in its conflict with Russia. Over 50 countries participate in the group, including all NATO members, the majority of EU member states, as well as allies from Africa and Asia.
