New speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament to be elected on Sept. 23
A meeting of newly elected deputies from the Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP) is scheduled for September 23 to determine candidates for the positions of chairman and first deputy chairman of the Milli Majlis, the parliament where YAP holds the majority.
Additionally, the inaugural session of the Milli Majlis of the VII convocation will take place on the same day, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During this session, the Speaker and their deputies will be elected.
It is noteworthy that on September 21, the Plenary Session of the Constitutional Court approved the results of the elections for the VII convocation of the Milli Majlis through special constitutional proceedings.
The first plenary meeting of the autumn session is set for September 30, marking a significant legislative period for Azerbaijan.
During the inaugural session, MP Ziyad Samedzadeh, who is 84 years old and elected from the 23rd Nasimi-Sabail constituency, will lead the proceedings as per the internal regulations of the Milli Majlis, which designate the oldest member to preside over the first session.
