Number of poor families down in Georgia
The number of poor families decreased by 10.3 per cent in Georgia from January 1 till August 1, 2023 and reached 132,700.
In total, the percentage of poor families living on state benefits, reached 16.7 per cent of the total number of families in Georgia by August 1, 2023, Sputnik Georgia reports citing the Georgian Department of Human Services.
The total number of Georgian citizens living on the verge of poverty from January 1 till August 1, 2023, decreased by 11.1 per cent and reached about 470,000 people.
Some 181,400 people out of the total number of poor citizens are minors, while 48,500 are children under six years old. Around 85,200 people living on the verge of poverty are pensioners.
Most of the poor families – 34,100 live in Tbilisi, 19,700 families in Kvemo Kartli, 14,900 families - in Imereti. The smallest number of such families is in Mtskheta-Mtianeti (3,100) and in Samtskhe-Javakheti (3,300).
Meanwhile, every seventh family is poor in Tbilisi, every sixth family is poor in Shida Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria and Kvemo Kartli and every third family is poor in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.
