OPEC backs Azerbaijan in tackling climate change, vows assistance for COP29
OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais has expressed OPEC's support for Azerbaijan in tackling climate change and the organization's readiness to facilitate the successful hosting of the COP29 climate conference.
He made the remarks at the opening of the 29th exhibition Caspian Oil and Gas and the 12th exhibition Caspian International Power and Alternative Energy (Caspian Power), held within the framework of Baku Energy Week, Report informs.
"It was encouraging to hear that Azerbaijan is taking an inclusive approach to COP29 in which all views, including those of the oil industry, are taken into account," he said.
"We support Azerbaijan's constructive activity, it listens to everyone, being pragmatic and progressive. I am confident that the event will be a great success and we are ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with you. Strengthening international cooperation to combat climate change is essential. To advance the objectives, principles and policy guidance of the UNFCCC on climate change and its Paris Agreement, we must allow each country to chart its own path based on its national circumstances, taking into account the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities," said the OPEC Secretary General.
