Pacific nations look to Baku Action Hub for climate support
Micronesia and the Marshall Islands have expressed interest in cooperating with the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub — a platform created within the framework of COP29 to support nations most vulnerable to climate change, such as small island states.
This interest was expressed during a high-level event on peace and climate resilience organised by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who chairs the UNESCAP session, emphasised that the country intends to continue playing an active role in multilateral diplomacy and remains committed to deepening its ties with the Asia-Pacific region in support of shared development goals. Guided by the principles of solidarity, innovation, and shared responsibility, Azerbaijan advocates a development model that is human-centred, strengthens regional ties, accelerates digital and green transitions, and fosters peace and cooperation.
During the peace and climate-focused panel, the parties spoke about the importance of the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub, which was established during COP29 as a coordination platform to facilitate collaboration between national, regional, and international initiatives to ensure peace-sensitive climate action. Its initiatives can serve to open up additional opportunities for countries most vulnerable to climate risks, including strengthening international cooperation and attracting sustainable financing.
