Papuashvili: Georgia and Europe hold different values
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has stated that certain Members of the European Parliament from Poland advocating sanctions against Georgian television channels do not respect the sovereignty or sentiments of the Georgian people.
Papuashvili criticised the initiative and questioned the value alignment between Georgia and parts of the European Union, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
“These past days have once again shown us that, in its current form, the European Union is no longer Europe with its values. When we speak about such groups in the European Parliament, the Georgian people have no shared values with them. In terms of values, we exist in different worlds—we have nothing in common,” he said.
Earlier, three Members of the European Parliament called for sanctions against Georgian TV channels Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and POSTV, accusing them of spreading disinformation and conducting defamatory campaigns. However, as noted, no concrete evidence supporting these claims has been presented.
