Parliament speaker: Turkish Cypriots stand united in memory of Khojaly massacre
Zorlu Töre, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), expressed heartfelt gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his unwavering support for Turkish Cyprus, particularly within the framework of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS).
He made the remarks during a meeting with Tamraz Taghiyev, Chairman of the National Association of Urban Municipalities of Azerbaijan, in Lefkosh on September 24, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
He praised President Aliyev's leadership and recalled his words, describing the OTS as “the main international organisation” and “the family of Azerbaijan.”
He urged other Turkic states to follow Azerbaijan's example in supporting the rights of Turkish Cypriots: “Turkic states should closely co-operate in all fields.”
Töre further honoured the bravery of Azerbaijani soldiers who liberated their ancestral lands from years of Armenian occupation, saying, “I honour with deep respect the memory of the Shehids of Azerbaijan.” He emphasized that Turkish Cypriots will “never forget the massacres in Khojaly.”
Additionally, the TRNC Parliament Speaker highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the municipal bodies of Azerbaijan and Turkish Cyprus. The meeting was attended by Mahmut Ozçınar, Head of the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities.
