Peace treaty hinges on constitutional revisions in Armenia, Azerbaijani FM tells UK counterpart
In a significant phone call on March 19, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, engaged in a dialogue with the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, David Lemmy.
The conversation covered a broad spectrum, from strengthening Azerbaijani-British ties to the evolving dynamics of the region and the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az has learnt from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
During the exchange, Lemmy offered his warm congratulations for the Novruz holiday, expressing his belief in the continued growth of Azerbaijani-British relations. He extended his well wishes and hopes for further cooperation.
Bayramov, on his part, took the opportunity to update Lemmy on the latest developments in the region and the peace negotiations with Armenia. He stressed that, while discussions on the peace agreement have largely been completed, signing it hinges on necessary constitutional amendments in Armenia. These changes are crucial, as Armenia’s constitution still holds territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Additionally, Bayramov underscored the importance of dissolving outdated entities like the OSCE Minsk Group, which no longer serves a relevant purpose in the current context.
The conversation also touched on other matters of shared interest, with both sides exchanging views on a range of topics.
