Pezeshkian congratulates Pashinyan on election win, signals closer ties
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a message to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, congratulating him on the victory of the ruling Civil Contract party in Armenia’s parliamentary elections and expressing hope for continued stability and cooperation between the two countries.
“Your Excellency, the esteemed Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan,
I wish to extend my sincerest congratulations on the successful conduct of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Armenia and on the victory of the Civil Contract party, which you lead.
The renewed trust that the people of Armenia have placed in your government reflects the will and desire of the people to continue on the path of strengthening peace, development, stability, and regional cooperation in the South Caucasus,” Pezeshkian said in his message.
The Iranian leader added that he is confident the new term will further strengthen constructive cooperation between the two countries, contributing to regional peace, stability, and development, and serving the interests of both nations.
He concluded by wishing the government and people of Armenia peace, prosperity, happiness, and continued development.
Armenia held parliamentary elections on June 7, 2026, with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party winning approximately 49.8% of the vote and a slim majority of seats in the National Assembly.
The election was widely seen as a test of Armenia's shifting foreign policy toward closer EU and Western ties amid reduced reliance on Russia.
Turnout reached nearly 59%, with the pro-Russian Strong Armenia alliance placing second at around 23% and the Armenia Alliance third.
