KazMunayGas, Chevron discuss alternative oil export routes
Executives from Kazakhstan's state oil company KazMunayGas and U.S. energy giant Chevron have discussed alternative export routes for Kazakh oil and the future development of the country's largest oil field during talks in Astana.
According to Kazakhstan-based outlet Ak Zhayik, the meeting brought together Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas, and Clay Neff, President of Upstream at Chevron, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
A key focus of the discussions was ensuring uninterrupted exports of Kazakh crude to international markets. The two sides reviewed oil transportation through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), Kazakhstan's main export route, as well as shipments via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which the country uses as an alternative corridor.
The executives also discussed the continued development of the Tengiz oil field, one of the world's largest, with particular emphasis on maintaining stable operations and ensuring production safety at Tengizchevroil, the joint venture that operates the field.
According to KazMunayGas, the companies also explored opportunities for cooperation on new geological exploration projects in Kazakhstan.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in Kazakhstan's energy sector.
