Kazakhstan’s Astana set for new airport construction launch in 2027
Construction of a new airport in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana is scheduled to begin in 2027, Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev announced during a government meeting.
He said that the modernisation of airport infrastructure across Kazakhstan will be carried out over the next three years.
“Modernisation of Astana airport is a top priority. The city administration is already conducting the necessary preparatory work, and construction is planned to begin next year,” Sauranbayev said.
He stressed that the development of airport infrastructure is part of a broader effort to strengthen the country’s transport and logistics capacity.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had previously stated that the construction of a new airport in the capital is urgent and instructed that the project be launched as soon as possible.
Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek earlier said that the city’s master plan includes potential sites for a new airport, while Deputy Mayor Yersin Otebayev noted that several possible locations are currently under consideration.
