Drone strike hits Russian defence research institute in Penza PHOTO/VIDEO
A defence industry facility in the Russian city of Penza was struck in a drone attack, according to monitoring channels, although Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the attack.
The reported target was JSC "NIIFI" (Scientific Research Institute of Physical Measurements), a defence enterprise that specialises in the development and production of pressure and displacement sensors, as well as measurement systems used in aviation and missile technology, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
According to the reports, the institute manufactures components used in a range of Russian military systems, including the Bulava, Topol-M and Sineva intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as the Iskander missile system. The enterprise is part of Russia's state space corporation, Roscosmos.
The institute is also reported to supply pressure sensors for the engines of Kh-101 and Kh-59M2/Kh-59M2A cruise missiles.

In addition, it produces equipment for Russian military aircraft, including sensors and measurement systems for the Su-34 bomber. For the Su-57 fighter jet, it manufactures DAV-096 absolute pressure sensors, SITUOK-01 wheel temperature and cooling indication systems, and SKPSh-01 landing gear parameter monitoring systems.
There has been no official information on the extent of the damage or any casualties.
JSC NIIFI is subject to sanctions imposed by the United States and Ukraine over its role in supporting Russia's defence industry.
