PM: Armenia has no plans to leave Russia-led union
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that Armenia has no plans to leave the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union [EAEU].
He made the remarks at a press conference on March 14, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"It is obvious that the EAEU is an opportunity for dynamic economic growth for Armenia. But it is equally obvious that if Armenia falls under sanctions, these opportunities will collapse," Pashinyan said.
Armenia is not going to leave any organisation. The authorities will do everything to ensure that Armenia continues to be the most responsible member of the international community on the one hand and a reliable partner on the other. Yerevan should be able to act in the existing amplitude, he added.
According to him, on the one hand, Armenia's trade with other EAEU countries reached colossal volumes last year. This is an absolute opportunity for the Armenian economy. But on the other hand, the West is concerned about whether Armenia is trying to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions. This is a threat, he believes.
The events on the Russian-Ukrainian track contain both risks and opportunities for Armenia, the situation is not static, Pashinyan said.
