PM Netanyahu expresses gratitude to Azerbaijani president as Baku hosts Israel-Türkiye talks
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that talks between Israeli and Turkish representatives took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, Netanyahu expressed his appreciation to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for facilitating the meeting, which marks a significant step in the evolving diplomatic relations between Israel and Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports.
“Pursuant to a directive from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a diplomatic-security delegation, led by National Security Council Director Tzachi Hanegbi, and with the participation of senior representatives from the Defence Ministry and the security services, met last night with a parallel Turkish delegation,” the statement by the office says.
“Israel thanks Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev for hosting the important talks.
Each side presented its interests in the region. It was agreed to continue on the path of dialogue in order to maintain regional stability,” the PM’s office added.
As Caliber.Az reports, sources in the Turkish Ministry of National Defence said that the first technical meeting on the establishment of a de-escalation mechanism to prevent unwanted incidents in Syria was held in Azerbaijan on April 9.
Work on the establishment of a de-escalation mechanism will continue.
