Political analyst: Armenia turning last page of its statehood
Armenian political analyst Tevan Poghosyan has said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will implement his plans one by one, while at the moment the Zangazur Corridor is on his agenda.
“We were told that as soon as we lose Karabakh, we will turn the last page of the history of Armenia’s statehood. We have already taken up this page and started to turn it over. We haven’t completely turned it over yet, but you should know that Syunik (Zangazur) will be the next issue on the agenda,” he said, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
The political analyst noted that it is difficult for Armenian experts to assess the situation and make political forecasts, including those in connection with the possible meeting among the Russian president, the Azerbaijani president and the Armenian prime minister in Moscow on August 31.
“The reason is that we live in a country in which we are told that “nothing is happening”, and then it turns out that everything is happening. We were told that there were no documents except for the statement dated November 9, and then it turned out that there were verbal agreements, then written ones appeared,” the analyst said.
“I don't know what will be discussed during the negotiations. We can only analyse the statements of representatives of other countries that are either hostile to us – Türkiye and Azerbaijan, or do not perceive Armenia as a subject and try to promote only own interests,” Poghosyan said.
He noted that the Armenian people have already come to terms with the fact that the country's leadership is doing nothing to protect own interests.
“During the negotiations, everyone agrees on something through Armenia. Everyone formulates the demands, while the Armenian leadership agrees,” the political analyst said.
“I think that now our position will not be expressed, on the contrary, Pashinyan will help. Azerbaijan and Türkiye say that the "Zangazur corridor" is a fact and will definitely happen. I have never heard Azerbaijan say that it will discuss the return of prisoners of war or the status of Karabakh. The last news I read was that President Aliyev was determined to discuss only the Zangazur Corridor. The Russian, Azerbaijani and Turkish media outlets spread only this news,” Poghosyan added.
