Political analyst: Armenian ex-president preparing coup
Armenian political analyst Harutyun Mkrtchyan has said that some members of the Armenia Alliance made outrageous statements.
“The Karabakh Armenians in Armenia are considered a target group. It is possible to gain political dividends by using the Karabakh Armenians’ psychological state and to try to change the power,” Mkrtchyan said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
“Firstly, the Karabakh Armenians should remain aloof from the internal political processes in Armenia and not participate in them until they accept citizenship and integrate into the internal political life here,” he noted.
“Secondly, the statements made by some Armenia Alliance members that a change of power can be achieved through rallies are outrageous. I can't imagine that they are planning 'Operation 2' to overthrow the government. If anyone can say that 10,000 people can overthrow the government peacefully in Armenia, it will be a fantasy. In other words, these forces [the parliamentary opposition] are preparing to commit another operation in Armenia on March 1, but this time they found themselves on the other side of the barricades. These people are preparing, as well-known MP Hayk Mamijanyan said, for the last spurt, so it is necessary to be alert and vigilant. Law enforcement agencies must take these allegations into account,” the political analyst said.
“Of course, there is danger. Just remember the statement made by Interior Minister Vahe Ghazaryan that several tens of thousands of machine guns were supplied from Karabakh to Armenia during the last war. This must be resisted on a national scale, because the matter rests in internal stability and external threats that they are trying to hit us with,” Mkrtchyan stressed.
The political analyst said that it is necessary to pay attention to the visits of representatives of the “Armenia”, “Prosperous Armenia” parties and a number of other parties to Moscow.
“Those representatives went there and received instructions. While leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organisation [CSTO] de jure, these people will try to create obstacles in Armenia, in this context we will also take into account Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s threats about possible economic repressions against Armenia,” he noted.
“Ex-president Robert Kocharyan’s son Levon Kocharyan received instructions from Moscow that the time has come to take the last oath of allegiance, and if they talk about losing something, then I can say that they really lose and will lose much. This fear motivates them to take actions. They will try to stir up a social revolt in Armenia, but the public understands the current situation,” the political analyst said.
“While speaking about Levon Kocharyan’s statement that it is difficult to take power in such a situation, but they are ready to take this responsibility and save Armenia from destruction, just pay attention to one of Robert Kocharyan’s interviews. Robert Kocharyan was unable to give a very specific and direct answer to one of the journalists’ direct questions about independence. I think that this is a significant point,” he said.
“They were saviors, they saved Karabakh on the streets of Yerevan. We repeatedly suggested the ex-presidents to save Karabakh on the spot. We saw how they saved it. We saw Armenia’s troubles. A citizen of Armenia is much more cruel, so let Kocharyan not test the public’s patience,” Mkrtchyan said.
The political analyst said that Armenia is now on a very important and dangerous path, and every such attempt must be suppressed from the very beginning.
“The Republic of Armenia is sorting things out with its ‘ally’, but in fact, there will be many dangers, there will be many attempts to create discord within Armenia and prevent the government from making this decision, but a law-abiding citizen must realise that Armenia’s independence is at stake, which is not subject to discussion,” he said.
“Let everyone take this into account and be ready to endure and bear the difficult economic present, which will last up to a year. Society must be ready for this. Armenia must not be brought to the brink of an abyss by rallies. For example, some businessmen in Armenia are not trying to stir up a social rebellion, because gastropolitics cannot be above our independence,” the political analyst said.
