Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel Over Nuclear Scientist Leak
Iranian authorities have executed a man accused of spying for Israel by passing on sensitive information about a nuclear scientist who was killed during the recent conflict between the two countries, the judiciary announced on August 6.
Roozbeh Vadi was hanged after his sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Vadi was found guilty of leaking classified details about a nuclear scientist targeted during Israel’s 12-day military campaign in June.
The report did not specify the exact timing of Vadi’s arrest or trial. It said he was recruited online by Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, and provided them with confidential information.
In June, Israel launched an unprecedented bombing offensive against Iran, which led to a brief but intense conflict involving missile and drone attacks.
The strikes targeted military installations as well as residential areas, resulting in the deaths of senior military figures, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of others.
Iranian media have reported the deaths of at least a dozen nuclear scientists during the Israeli campaign.
Following the hostilities, Iranian officials vowed swift justice against those accused of collaborating with Israel. Multiple arrests and executions of alleged Mossad operatives have since been announced.
Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, note that Iran remains the world’s second-largest executor after China.
