Preparation for COP29 at Baku Olympic Stadium nears completion Transportation updates announced
Ismayil Isayev, a member of the COP29 Coordination Board, has announced that preparations for the Baku Olympic Stadium are 90 per cent complete ahead of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Isayev stated that the testing phase for the completed works will commence at the end of this month, ensuring that all aspects of the event are nearly finalized, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
COP29 is scheduled to take place on November 11-22 at the stadium.
In related updates, Orkhan Mahmudlu, Head of Transport and City Operations of COP29 Operating Company, informed reporters that the designated COP29 lanes in Baku will function similarly to bus lanes, adhering to the same rules and regulations.
Additionally, changes to the Baku Metro traffic schedule will be implemented during COP29 to accommodate the influx of attendees. Mahmudlu indicated that train intervals will be reduced to handle the expected increase in passenger volume, ensuring efficient transportation throughout the event.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan on November 11-22. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023. During two weeks, Baku will become a global hub, welcoming around 70,000 to 80,000 international guests.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aimed at preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system. The abbreviation COP means "Conference of the Parties" and refers to the highest decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the UNFCCC.
