Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez donate €2 million to Venezuela earthquake relief
Real Madrid and club president Florentino Pérez have pledged a combined €2 million ($2.2 million) to support relief efforts after devastating earthquakes in Venezuela killed nearly 1,500 people and left thousands missing.
The Spanish football club said June 29 that its foundation had launched a fundraising campaign in collaboration with the Red Cross to help those affected by the twin earthquakes, which struck Venezuela last Wednesday (June 24), Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
According to Jorge Rodríguez, president of Venezuela's National Assembly, the death toll had risen to almost 1,500 by June 28, while more than 12,000 people remained missing after the powerful earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, flattened buildings and displaced thousands.
"Real Madrid has decided to support this campaign with a donation of €1m to help the victims and the families of those affected," the club said in a statement.
Additionally, President Pérez will also contribute with a donation of €1 million.
"At Real Madrid, we want to express all our support, affection and solidarity with the Venezuelan people during these very challenging times."
Fellow La Liga club Barcelona also launched a fundraising campaign through its foundation "to respond to the humanitarian emergency affecting millions of people in Venezuela."
The Catalan club said it had made an initial contribution of €100,000 ($114,000).
The disaster has had a significant impact in Spain, where authorities have confirmed that 17 Spanish citizens are among the dead, with more than 100 others still unaccounted for.
Spain is also home to a large Venezuelan community. According to 2025 statistics, nearly 700,000 people living in Spain were born in Venezuela.
