Russia calls for political settlement on Iran, sends proposals to all parties
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Moscow has conveyed its proposals for resolving the situation surrounding Iran to Tehran, as well as to the United States and Israel, ahead of time.
The top diplomat stressed that Russia remains prepared to engage in discussions with all parties involved, Caliber.Az reports, referring to Russian media.
Speaking to journalists, Lavrov stated, “Russia’s specific proposals on how to ensure not only de-escalation but also a reliable, long-term settlement have been sent in advance to the United States, Israel, and Iran. We remain ready for practical discussions of these proposals, as well as for dialogue with our colleagues involved in various conflicts on all other issues.”
Lavrov expressed deep concern over the current escalation related to Iran, emphasising its broader implications. “It threatens further undermining of regional and global security. Russia has strongly condemned the US missile and bombing strikes on Iran’s nuclear program facilities, which were carried out following Israel’s unprovoked attack on the Islamic Republic,” he said.
Highlighting the violation of international norms, Lavrov noted, “These actions breach international standards, including the UN Charter and the regime of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.”
Concluding his remarks, the minister called for an end to the aggression and a return to diplomatic solutions: “Therefore, we consistently call to stop the aggression and take all necessary steps to return the situation around Iran to the political-diplomatic track.”
