Russia confirms serious consideration of Syria’s BRICS membership bid
Russia's BRICS Sherpa and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that Syria’s application to join the BRICS group will be given serious consideration, provided the country's new leadership reaffirms its desire to join the organization.
Ryabkov discussed the outcomes of Russia’s presidency in the BRICS association and addressed whether the group would be willing to review Syria’s application, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Without a doubt," Ryabkov stated. "We are carefully considering the applications of all countries, and Syria is no exception. However, we are not pressuring anyone or offering incentives. We respect each nation’s decision. Ultimately, this is a matter of great significance, and we are not focused on formal indicators related to membership composition."
Earlier, Syria's Ambassador to Russia, Bashar Al-Jaafari, stated that his country is "engaged in serious negotiations" to join BRICS.
