Russia denies reports of mass Coxsackie virus outbreaks
The Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) denies reports of Coxsackie virus outbreaks in Russia.
Information about widespread Coxsackie virus outbreaks in Russia is inaccurate, Caliber.Az reports, citing information provided to RBC by Rospotrebnadzor’s press service.
The situation with enterovirus infections in the country is stable, according to the press service.
Coxsackie viruses are a group of enteroviruses that commonly cause mild to moderate illnesses, including hand, foot, and mouth disease, fever, and sore throat.
They are highly contagious and primarily spread via the faecal-oral route, respiratory droplets, or direct contact with contaminated surfaces.
Most infections occur in children, although adults can also be affected.
