Russia expels over 80,000 migrants for immigration violations in 2024
More than 80,000 individuals who violated immigration laws were forcibly deported from Russia in 2024, according to the Federal Bailiff Service of Russia (FSSP).
"By December 2024, over 80,000 foreign nationals and stateless persons had been expelled from Russia by court orders," a source informed, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
In 2023, more than 44,200 foreign nationals and stateless persons were expelled to 60 countries. In 2022, 26,600 foreign nationals and stateless persons were expelled to 47 countries.
Earlier, the head of Russia’s Federal Bailiff Service, Dmitry Aristov, reported that from 2017 to 2022, around 200,000 migrants had been expelled from Russia for violations of migration and labour laws.
In 2024, 23,000 migrants were expelled from Moscow and the Moscow region. They were found guilty by the courts of committing administrative violations under Article 18.8 of the Russian Administrative Code (violating the rules for entry into Russia or the conditions of stay in Russia), and they will be banned from returning to Russia for the next five years.
To recap, Russia is set to implement a new law on March 5, 2025, granting extensive state control over foreign nationals facing deportation. The law allows police to enter residences and access sensitive data, including banking and tax information, as part of the deportation process.
Law enforcement will also have the power to monitor foreign nationals using technical surveillance tools and access mobile device data, geolocation, and payment system records. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will oversee deportation procedures, which will restrict the rights of individuals illegally residing or violating the law in Russia.
