Russia ready to facilitate settlement over Iran's nuclear program - Kremlin
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia is ready to fully facilitate the resolution of the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program through diplomatic means.
"The Russian Federation remains willing, to the fullest extent of its capabilities, to contribute to resolving the situation around Iran's nuclear program through political and diplomatic means. We are ready to do everything that depends on us," Peskov said, commenting on the view that Russia and China could serve as guarantors of a new agreement between Iran and the United States on the nuclear issue, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
On April 15, 2025, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff announced a significant policy reversal, demanding that Iran completely dismantle its nuclear program. This move contradicts his earlier position, which allowed for low-level uranium enrichment for civilian purposes. The abrupt change has complicated ongoing negotiations and raised the possibility of military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In response, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reaffirmed that Iran's right to enrich uranium is non-negotiable. He emphasized Iran's willingness to build trust but insisted on retaining enrichment rights. The second round of U.S.-Iran negotiations is scheduled for Saturday in Oman.
