Russia says Tajikistan unwilling to join EAEU

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said that Tajikistan does not yet display any desire to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Overchuk made the remark on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2023), Gazeta.ru reported.

The official noted that the Russian side has not yet received any signals in this regard from Dushanbe.

"It should be their decision. How they will make it is entirely their business," he noted.

According to Overchuk, Russia is trying to explain to Tajikistan the advantages that integration into the bloc's economic space will bring.

"This concerns issues of barrier-free trade, the common customs space, and the common labor market," the deputy prime minister stressed.
