Russian attacks target railway infrastructure in Ukraine's Poltava region
Russian forces launched an attack on railway infrastructure in Ukraine’s Poltava region overnight on September 18, causing fires in the Myrhorod district, local authorities reported.
The head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, Volodymyr Kogut, confirmed the assault on Telegram, stating: “During the night, the enemy attacked railway infrastructure in the Myrhorod district.”
He added that the resulting fires were promptly contained by units of the State Emergency Service, according to Ukrainian media, which quote him as saying.
Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) issued a warning that, due to the ongoing hostilities in the Poltava region, suburban train services have been temporarily adjusted. Some trains have been cancelled, while others are operating with reserve locomotives and may experience delays.
The attacks follow similar incidents in recent days. Yesterday, Russian drones targeted Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, causing delays on the Dnipro route.
Earlier, the Russian military struck railway infrastructure in the city of Lozova in the Kharkiv region, killing one person and wounding four. That assault damaged the railway station and other key infrastructure facilities.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents to remain cautious near railway facilities in affected areas.
