Russian foreign ministry calls protests in Yerevan "Armenia’s internal affair"

Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Zaitsev has said that anti-government protests in Yerevan are Armenia’s internal affair.

Russia is interested in the stable, safe and peaceful development of the allied republic, the official said at a briefing on May 6, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.

“All internal political issues should be resolved only legally, within the constitution and corresponding democratic procedures,” Zaitsev said.

As for linking the current events with the normalization of the Armenia-Azerbaijan ties, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the issue is the perception of certain statements by the Armenian leadership, rather than the attitude of the opposition to the trilateral agreements.

“In this regard, I would like to once again draw attention to the fact that we are invariably committed to actively contributing to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, primarily through the implementation of all the provisions of the tripartite agreements dated November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 and also through the conclusion of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku,” Zaitsev stressed.
